The final version of Windows 10 will be released with what Microsoft hopes is a better security solution that reduces the need for using passwords. The company also plans to support the standards that have been set up by the Fast IDentity Online (FIDO) Alliance in Windows 10.
Microsoft stated:
"FIDO standards enable a universal framework that a global ecosystem delivers for a consistent and greatly improved user experience of strong password-less authentication. Interoperability of FIDO products is a hallmark of FIDO authentication and for this reason we're confident that it will succeed in transforming the industry. We're excited about the prospect of bringing a FIDO solution to market and how it will solve a critical need for both enterprises and consumers alike."
The current technical preview for Windows 10 includes Microsoft's contributions to the FIDO standards, which might include the user swiping a finger, looking at a camera, or speaking into a microphone to register with a online service and then repeating that same action when they need to re-authenticate with the service. Microsoft added:
"Windows 10 will also include Active Directory integration for on-premise scenarios and Microsoft Account integration for our consumer Microsoft services such as Outlook.com, OneDrive, and more."
